Communicating with Families About Incidents and Injuries Training Course (AUS Version)

$27.50 inc. GST

This course teaches early childhood educators, room leaders, and nominated supervisors how to communicate with families after an incident, injury, trauma, or illness in a way that meets legal notification requirements and protects trust. It covers when and how families must be notified under Regulations 86, 87, and 88, when a serious incident must also be reported to the regulatory authority, and how to write clear, accurate incident records. Learners build practical skills for having calm, honest conversations with families — including how to respond when a family is upset, asks difficult questions, or wants to escalate a concern.

Designed specifically for Australian early childhood services, the course reflects real situations educators face on the floor rather than generic customer service theory. On completion, learners receive an instant digital certificate suitable for training and compliance records.

This course will take approximately 40 minutes to complete.

Why Is Communicating with Families About Incidents and Injuries Training Important?

How a service handles the conversation after an incident often matters more to families than the incident itself. A well-handled, transparent conversation reassures families and preserves trust; a poorly handled one — vague, defensive, or delayed — is what typically triggers complaints, regulatory scrutiny, or reputational damage.

Under Regulations 86, 87, and 88, services have specific obligations to notify families when an incident, injury, trauma, or illness occurs, and separate obligations to notify the regulatory authority when an incident is serious.

This course gives educators and leaders the legal clarity and the communication skills to meet these obligations confidently — reducing the risk of complaints, regulatory follow-up, and loss of family trust.
