This course gives New Zealand managers and supervisors the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively when a worker is injured. It covers the manager’s responsibilities at each stage of the injury management process — from the initial response through to supporting recovery and planning a safe return to work. Learners will understand how to work constructively with injured employees, medical professionals, and other relevant parties to produce outcomes that benefit both the individual and the organisation.
Designed for New Zealand workplaces across all industries and sectors, this course is delivered entirely online and takes approximately 58 minutes to complete. Participants receive an instant digital certificate upon completion.
This course will take approximately 58 minutes to complete.
When a worker is injured, the quality of the management response in the days and weeks that follow has a direct impact on recovery time, return-to-work outcomes, and the long-term wellbeing of the employee. A slow, inconsistent, or poorly coordinated response can extend absences, increase costs, damage workplace relationships, and expose organisations to legal risk.
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) have a duty to manage work-related health risks — including providing appropriate support when workers are harmed. Organisations also have obligations under the Accident Compensation Act 2001, which sets expectations around rehabilitation and return-to-work support in New Zealand workplaces.
This course equips managers to meet those obligations — acting early, communicating clearly, and supporting workers through a structured, compliant injury management process.
