An Introduction to Diversity Awareness Training Course (NZ Version)

$27.50 inc. GST

This course introduces the concepts of diversity and inclusion in the New Zealand workplace — what these terms mean in practice, why they matter, and how they contribute to a respectful, productive, and equitable work environment. Learners explore the business case for diversity, the range of identities and backgrounds present in Aotearoa New Zealand’s workforce, and how inclusive behaviours can be applied day to day. The course addresses a broad range of diversity areas, including Māori as Tangata Whenua, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disability, neurodivergent people, LGBTIQ+ communities, and people of all ages, genders, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Developed for New Zealand workplaces, this course is suitable for employees at all levels — whether you are new to these concepts or looking to build on existing knowledge. Learners who complete the course receive an instant digital certificate of completion.

This course will take approximately 27 minutes to complete.

Why is An Introduction to Diversity Awareness Training Important?

New Zealand’s workforce is becoming more diverse in culture, age, ability, gender, and lived experience. Organisations that do not actively build inclusive practices risk missing the talent, innovation, and community connection that a genuinely diverse team provides. Exclusionary behaviour — even unintentional — can damage workplace culture, reduce retention, and expose organisations to legal risk.

Under the Human Rights Act 1993 and the Employment Relations Act 2000, New Zealand workers and employers have clear obligations to prevent discrimination and treat all people fairly in the workplace. These obligations apply across a wide range of protected grounds, including race, sex, disability, age, religious belief, and sexual orientation.

This course gives employees and managers a grounded understanding of what diversity and inclusion look like in practice — building the awareness needed to meet these obligations and contribute to a workplace where everyone can participate fully.
