Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Awareness Training Course (NZ Version)

$27.50 inc. GST

This course explores what it means to be culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) in a New Zealand context — and what workplaces can do to better support and include people from diverse backgrounds. Learners will examine national statistics on cultural and linguistic diversity, consider the challenges CALD individuals can face in employment, and gain practical strategies for fostering genuine inclusion at work. While the term “CALD” is commonly used in Australia, this course also acknowledges the New Zealand preference for terms such as “ethnic communities” or “culturally and ethnically diverse groups” — reflecting the same ideas through a local lens.

Designed specifically for New Zealand workplaces, the course draws on local data, examples, and context relevant to Aotearoa. On completion, participants receive an instant digital certificate confirming their understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity in the workplace.

This course will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Why is the Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Awareness Training Important?

Nearly one in three people in New Zealand were born overseas, and hundreds of languages are spoken across the country. Despite this, CALD individuals can still face significant barriers — including discrimination, language difficulties, and difficulty finding employment that matches their qualifications and experience. When workplaces lack awareness of these challenges, the result can be poor team cohesion, missed talent, exclusion, and complaints.

New Zealand organisations have a responsibility to provide workplaces that are inclusive and representative of the communities they serve. Understanding the needs and strengths of culturally and linguistically diverse employees and customers helps build better teams, improve service delivery, and contribute to a fairer, more equitable society.

This course builds that awareness and offers practical steps that any workplace can act on.
