This course provides a clear, plain-language introduction to the Queensland Human Rights Act 2019 and the human rights it protects for everyone in Queensland. It explains what human rights are, how they apply in everyday situations, and how decision-making by public entities can impact your rights.
Learners will also explore what to do if they feel their rights have been unreasonably limited — including practical steps for raising concerns and understanding how the Queensland Human Rights Commission may be able to help.
Please note that this course is not affiliated with the Queensland Human Rights Commission (QHRC) and has been created independently.
This course will take approximately 44 minutes to complete.
Decisions made by public services can affect people’s wellbeing, access to support, and how fairly they are treated. When you understand your rights, you’re better equipped to ask questions, recognise when something doesn’t feel right, and engage confidently with public services.
In Queensland, the Human Rights Act 2019 protects human rights in law (including 23 rights) and places responsibilities on public entities to act compatibly with human rights and give proper consideration to human rights when making decisions. This course helps reduce risk and supports more transparent, fair and respectful decision-making.
