Customer Story: Madison Technologies

Madison Technologies is an Australian-owned business specialising in connectivity products and solutions across communications, audio visual, wireless and networking. Founded in 1991, their commitment to their people runs deep — so when staff surveys showed a strong desire for more training and development, leadership didn’t ignore it. The challenge was delivering on that promise without a dedicated L&D function.

Madison Technologies doesn’t have a dedicated L&D function. When staff surveys came back showing a clear desire for more training and development, it was the HR team that picked up the challenge — with no instructional design background and no specialist tools.

Most platforms they looked at were built for large enterprise organisations with big budgets and dedicated learning teams. They weren’t a fit.

The right platform for the right-sized business

Madison first encountered Tribal Habits at the AHRI conference. What stood out immediately was the ability for anyone in the organisation to create customised training — no specialist skills required.

“From the first time we spoke, I could see that Tribal Habits were offering something different — something that would fit a business of our size.”

Rather than waiting until custom content was ready, the team moved quickly by rolling out the Tribal Habits compliance and professional development libraries first. Australian lawyer-approved compliance training and ready-made professional development topics — covering areas like confident business networking and coaching staff — were live within days.

It gave staff their first experience of online training, and the feedback was immediate and positive.

“Starting with the ready-made libraries was a fantastic jumping-off point on our journey into online learning. The training and the platform itself received great feedback from our staff.”

The 24/7 availability was a practical win from day one. With staff working different rosters across warehouses, offices and multiple locations, training that could be accessed on any device at any time solved a problem that face-to-face sessions never could.

From HR team to whole business

With the libraries in place, the focus shifted to custom content. The HR team built the first modules — guided throughout by Sage, the Tribal Habits AI, which provided feedback on length, structure, use of video and imagery, and learning effectiveness.

“Sage guided us through each step of the process — letting us know if training was too long, too short, where to use video or images. Not having a background in instructional design, it gave me confidence that what we created would actually hit the mark.”

Once the HR team had found their feet, they introduced subject matter experts from across the business to the platform. The premise was simple: the people who know their area best are the right people to build training for it.

The results validated that thinking. Different business units started creating their own training — some independently, some in collaboration with HR. Custom, relevant, built by the people who live it.

“It’s very powerful to have different functions creating training that’s relevant to what they do. They know their own space best — they are the perfect people to be creating the training.”

Built into how the business runs

Tribal Habits is now being written into formal performance improvement and personal development plans at Madison. Compliance training is expanding. Face-to-face leadership sessions are being complemented with online modules. The platform has moved from a training initiative to a core part of how the business develops its people.

For an organisation with no L&D function, that’s a significant shift — and it started with a team that simply decided to make it happen.
